Feathers of Thought :
Chapter One, Part Two
Insights, side notes, and explanations for the
story
|
Hey, Grace has a halo now! What gives? (p.30)
|
- By virtue of meeting David and getting a job through his
connections, Grace has a place in society. She has become
part of the association. Granted, she still has little status
by herself, but as long as David is with her her standings
are considerably higher. This is why she can even have the
option of harassing the "Waiting room guy" at Cafe Paradise.
Alone, she would still be thrown out, (although probably not
by force, in case the restaurant would insult the organization
she belongs to now) but with David she could indulge in almost
as much petty vengeance as she could want, if that were her
particular wish.
|
|
Is that David? What happened to Mr. Nice Guy? Why is he
interrogating a man who's bleeding all over the floor?
|
- This is the flip-flop personality of David coming into play.
He's really a nice guy, unless demons are involved. Essentially
he's a religious zealot when it comes to "destroying the evil"
of demons. His rational is that by killing demons he is protecting
justice and peace, and insuring the safety of those he cares
about.
|
|
Did a sword just materialize out of his hand, and isn't
that thing a little too unrealistically constructed to be worth
anything?
|
- The weapon indeed materializes out of David's hand, as it
is a physical manifestation of his will. Essentially it is
a piece of molten soul that he crafts with a practiced thought
into his sword. As such, it is as light or as heavy as he
wants it to be and easy for him to wield. It is an extension
of himself. The condition of the sword also can be used to
gauge the condition of David's being. Should he be heavily
injured, his sword will also show signs of severe damage.
Thus a practiced eye can determine the health of any angel
who has created such a weapon, just as Sister Sincerity does
on page 43.

|
Five claw, one claw, that's all fine and dandy, but what
exactly does that mean?
|
- As you've gathered from David's removal of the fallen demon's
wing tip, the claws are actual claws, not medals or anything
of that sort. More they are trophies to proclaim a warrior's
success on the battlefield. While five may not seem very much,
David actually is one of the higher ranking warriors. It is
not exactly an easy thing to confront a demon. Often a warrior
may enter the Land of Sunset time and time again and not find
any demons to fight. A large degree of luck is required to
even be there the same time a demon is, and then there's the
task of surviving long enough to even claim a claw to show
off back home. The system also is flawed since a warrior of
moderate skill could defeat five young and inexperienced demons
to earn a quick five claws, while a warrior of incredible
would only earn one claw for defeating a demon more powerful
than all five of the young ones put together.
|
|
Why is Grace expelled?
|
- The official reason is that she was in the Land of Sunset
at the same time as another warrior angel. By law, only one
angel is to be engaged in battle in the Land of Sunset at
a time. By helping David, she breaks this law. While David
may be willing to adjust since she acted in the interests
of Heaven, administration is not. As for the "certain traits"
that can't be overlooked...let's just say administration is
also less likely to attribute unusual powers to the grace
of God...
