to see the world in shades of gray
morality has gone astray
a conscience that once drove my every thought and action
dear departed as I brood upon my sanctum's thrown
for this
eternal day

my God, the thing that anchored me to every place
connected me to every face
the lens through which I saw my life and all those in and out of it
in clear and most assuring forms of black and white
That separated living day from dead of night
and gave all things a purpose to be counted on
has left and gone away

The life that was laid out for me
by many voices ringing in a melody of unison
that emphasized the virtues of morality and truth and all those pleasant things of once before
have faded in a most peculiar way

In every choice I once could tell split between the right and wrong
I once could see the path from which I could not let my selfish needs lead me to stray
but now the many colors of the world and all the answers that I thought I knew have given way
to many shades of gray.
